In the WSS race at Buriram a crash denies blameless Gamarino a great result

The second race of the 2017 Supersport World Championship took place today ath the Chang International Circuit in Burira, Thailand. Thanks to a solid performance across practice and Superpole2, Christian Gamarino, riding for the Bardahl Evan Bros. Honda Racing Team, lined up on row three of the grid today. Unfortunately, Christian only slept for a few hours last night due to an intestinal virus, meaning that he was in less than perfect shape for the race.
After the morning’s warm-up, useful for making final retouches to the young Italian rider’s CBR600RR, the race got underway at 2.30pm local time, in very hot and sunny conditions. Gamarino made a perfect start and the Bardahl Evan Bros. Honda Racing Team rider was lying sixth after the first lap. Thanks to a very fast pace, Gamarino climbed up to second position, also setting the fastest lap of the race, a 1’38”721. During the sixth lap, to avoid Smith as he made a less than shrewd manoeuvre, Christian unfortunately crashed, concluding his race in the run-off area. An unlucky end for Gamarino and the entire team who deserved to obtain that ambitious result that was within the Italian rider’s grasp today.
The next round of the Supersport World Championship is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 31 March – 2 April at Motorland Aragon in Alcaniz, Spain.
Christian Gamarino: “Such a pity. Today the podium was within our reach. I didn’t feel well and during the race I was suffering some stomach pains but this didn’t stop me fro pushing hard. I moved up to second place and was trying to ride cleanly, to conserve the tyres and the bike for the final stages, when that absurd move by Smith forced me to brake so hard that I crashed. I’m really sorry, especially for my team as they provided me with a fantastic bike. On the other hand, this is only race two and we’ve shown that we have all we need to fight for the top spots. We’ll make up for it in coming races”.
